The Museum of Fishing and Lake Traditions of Peschiera del Garda is located at the Porta Verona Artillery Barracks, in the beautiful and evocative Sala Radetzky, once a pyrotechnic laboratory.

It has been managed since 2013 by the "Amici del Gondolin" Association with the patronage of the Municipal Administration.

Here you will be transported into history through unique photos and documentation, typical lake boats donated by citizens, a true ancient heritage of lake life.

Among the historic boats, the ancient "Anguilara" from the end of the 19th century is worthy of note, which was recovered from the seabed by our Sub Club Peschiera, and is truly exclusive to our city.

We then move on to other boats typical of our areas, such as the "Jole", a rowing boat originally from Lake Como, once used in the regattas that took place between the towns of Benacense, or the "Torbetta", a sort of container boat-shaped float that was used to collect the catch and, once filled with fish, was sunk to keep them “alive” and retrieve them when needed or for sale.

Continuing on, you can then admire an old pedal-traction gun, a boat used on the Garda and on the Frassino lake especially for hunting coots.

On the walls of the museum you can then admire trammel nets, harpoons and lampare, one of which fueled with carbide, which were used for night fishing, as well as beautiful pictorial representations by Pietro Basso where fishing scenes are reproduced.

Very beautiful and particular is also the room dedicated to the "calatafari", the old master carpenters who used to settle on the banks to build or offer a sort of maintenance to the boats used by fishermen. In this room you can admire old gouges, drills, planes, hammers, nails, fishing rods, nets, a testimony today of a past that is slowly being lost.

We recommend that you visit this corner of the lake's history!
