Jubilee 2025, plenary indulgence: the Sanctuary of Frassino among the destinations
12/04/2025
During the year 2025, the Catholic Church celebrates its 25th Jubilee. The Holy Year, which generally occurs every twenty-five years, is considered the year of the remission of sins, in which the Catholic faithful are called to reflect on the holiness of life, taking the virtues of Christ as a model.
There are no less than five jubilee sanctuaries on Lake Garda. One is just a few minutes from our Camping Relais: the Sanctuary of the Madonna del Frassino.
It was built between 1511 and 1514 in Renaissance style. It is characterised by a single main nave, embellished by 8 side altars and 2 chapels, that of the Blessed Sacrament and that of the Apparition.
The sanctuary stands on the site where, according to history, on 11 May 1510 the miracle of Our Lady's apparition to Count Bartolomeo Broglia occurred.
It is guarded by the Franciscan Friars Minor and is visited by thousands of pilgrims every year.
Plenary indulgence, in Catholic theology, is the total remission of temporal punishment for sins already confessed and absolved. It does not erase the sin itself, but eliminates its spiritual consequence on the soul. The Apostolic Penitentiary has released the rules for granting plenary indulgence in the Jubilee 2025.
To obtain a plenary indulgence, among the various possibilities, we find:
- State of grace: Being free from unconfessed mortal sins.
- Sacramental confession: Confessing one's sins.
- Eucharistic Communion: To participate in Mass and receive the Body and Blood of Christ.
- Prayer: Praying according to the Holy Father's intentions.
- Work of mercy: Performing a work of charity, such as assisting the sick.
In addition, the faithful may obtain an indulgence by undertaking a pilgrimage to any sacred Jubilee site, such as the Shrine of the Ash Tree, to at least one of the four Major Papal Basilicas in Rome, in the Holy Land or in other ecclesiastical districts, and by taking part in a moment of prayer, celebration or reconciliation. Then, again, ‘devoutly visiting any Jubilee site’ and experiencing Eucharistic adoration, concluding with the Our Father, Profession of Faith and Invocations to Mary.
San Benedetto Camping Relais is just a few minutes from the Sanctuary, which can also be reached on foot, walking through the vineyards and the splendid Frassino pond, a naturalistic oasis and UNESCO heritage site.
